Importance of Nag Panchami
Nag Panchami,the day devoted to the snake god as per Hindu mythology. It comes every year in the auspicious month of Savan(August/September). This year , Nag Panchami is on the 2nd of August.
It is an important day for the devotees of Lord Shiva. On this day Hindus worship the all Nag Devtas , on Lord Shiva’s neck.
Hindu scriptures mentions 9 types of snake namely : Ananta, Vasuki, Shesha, Padmanabha, Kambala, Shankhapal, Dhritarashtra, Takshaka and Kaliya.

Mythology of “Nag Panchami”
Nag Panchami is performed on the 5th day of Shukla Paksha of Sawan Mas(Month). This year the fifth day is on the 2nd of August. Nag Devta are worshipped every year on this day with traditional rituals.
People worship Lord Shiva’s snake Vasuki and all other “Nag Devtas” which relieves them from any kind of “Sarp Dosh”.
In Hinduism,the snakes are served as God and we preach them as holy. Our scriptures and Shiva Purana says a about Nag Devta and Lord Shiva. They states, Lord Shiva sleeps on Sheshnag and Vasuki is worned by him around his neck.
During Nag Panchami,huge crowds emerges in different Nag Devta temples. People come to worship with flowers,milk, sweets and sacrifices. Below mentioned are some of the renowned temples of Nag Devta from,where people visit from far off places.

Nagchandreshwar Temple
Located in Ujjain. Nagchandreshwar Temple opens only once in a year during the auspicious day of “Nag Panchami”. In the temple, Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati idol is under the spread hood of a serpent.The idol is one of its kind in the World. The idol originally was in Nepal. People come to worship from far away to get blessings of Nag Devta.
Nag Vasuki Temple
Nag Vasuki Temple is in Prayagraj of U.P. A few miles from the main centre of Bhaderwah town.
An aesthetic black idol of “Nag Vasuki ” is here. Beside the temple BhishmaPitamah status is there. The temple is by various names: Sheshraj, Sarpnath, Anant and Sarvadhyaksha.
Takshakeshwar Nath Temple
Takshakeshwar Nath Temple is located on the banks of river Yamuna. It is located in the city of Prayagraj. Whoever visits here once and sees the idols of Lord Shiva and Nag Devta will never fear snakes.
Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple
Mannarasala is located in the Southern part of the country in Kerala. A Brahmin family looks after the temple. The idol of Lord Vasuki (Nagraja) and his wife Nagyakshi Devi ( Queen Manasa) is in the temple.
